Hull and East Riding
Astronomical Society
About HERAS
The society presents an annual series of lectures by experts in the field. In addition, occasional outside meetings are arranged to introduce non-members to astronomy or to observe astronomical events such as lunar and solar eclipses.
We are a friendly group and you are assured of a warm welcome if you come along to one of the meetings.
Many members are also part of one of our sister societies: Brough Astronomy, based (predictably!) in Brough and East Riding Astronomers, based in Woodmansey. These are primarily ‘hands on’ observing groups, and Brough Astronomy has an observatory at the end of the sports fields at the Blackburn Leisure Social Club on Skillings Lane in Brough. The main telescope there is an excellent 14' Meade LX200. The teams at both societies are developing great skill in astro-photography too.
