A request from RAS to help supply data for the forthcoming transit of Venus.

Dear All,

We have been asked to pass on the following message to your all from
the Royal Astronomical Society with regards to the upcoming transit of
Venus. They would like to make a map of events in the UK for the
transit. We do encourage you all to get involved, but please also
remember to include your events on the FAS diary too. Please contact
Dr Massey directly if you like to have your events included.

All the best,

Sam

Message from Dr Robert Massey, Royal Astronomical Society:

Dear All

As you undoubtedly know, the next and final transit of Venus that will
be seen this century will take place on the morning of 6 June. Although
the prospects for seeing this from the UK are not ideal, the Royal
Astronomical Society would nonetheless like to set up a database of any
events around the country where members of the public can come to
observe the transit. We expect to receive a flurry of media interest
nearer the time and want to be able to give good advice to anyone who is
interested in watching this unique event.

As a local astronomical society, are you able to help us with this? We
want to put details of any events on an interactive map that includes
their location, time and contact details so that people can find out
what's happening in their area. If you're planning any related
activities (e.g. lectures) we'd be happy to include those too.

Please do drop me a line about this as soon as you can as we'd like to
put the map online early next month.

Best wishes and many thanks

Robert
